Prof. Shahbaz Khan, Director of UNESCO Beijing, welcomed the visit and congratulated UNESCO-ICHEI for its successful agreement renewal for eight years. According to him, this is a full affirmation of the achievements of UNESCO-ICHEI in the past seven years, and also an encouragement for the future development of UNESCO-ICHEI. He expressed his interest in deepening cooperation with UNESCO-ICHEI to jointly promote the digitisation of higher education in East Asia, actively support UNESCO's mission and strategic priorities in the global higher education agenda, and respond to the UN Transforming Education Summit.

He remarked that UNESCO Beijing is a crucial partner of UNESCO-ICHEI in East Asia. He added that the two sides share a lot of common interests and benefits in higher education, and that ongoing bilateral cooperation will no doubt contribute to the innovation, quality and equity in higher education in the region. Prof. Liang also invited Prof. Khan to participate in the upcoming IIOE Global Partner Summit and the UNESCO-ICHEI Governing Board Meeting.

Ms Bi Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, presented the main work and achievements of UNESCO-ICHEI for 2023, including the expansion of IIOE's global partnership alliance, collaboration with enterprise partners, the IIOE Micro-Certification for the Higher Education Teaching Personnel Project, Smart Classroom Project, and a series of joint sub-regional research projects, etc. Mr. Robert Parua, Programme Specialist for Education of UNESCO Beijing, gave a detailed presentation on the latest progress of the joint research project between UNESCO-ICHEI and UNESCO Beijing focusing on the digital transformation of higher education in East Asia.

Both parties had in-depth communication and sharing on how to leverage the advantages of high-tech and information technology industries in Shenzhen and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (GBA), aiming to promote the integration of industry and education, strengthen high-level policy dialogues in higher education, and contribute to the future-oriented talent cultivation.
