UNESCO-ICHEI participated in RCQE regional symposium
On 21 February 2024, the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI) attended the regional symposium under the theme of "The Development of University Education Programs in the Arab States in light of Future Skills and Professions" organised by the UNESCO Regional Centre for Quality and Excellence in Education (UNESCO-RCQE). Dr. Abdulrahman Almedaires, Director General of UNESCO-RCQE, and Dr. Mohammed bin Mubarak Juma, Minister of Education of the Kingdom of Bahrain, attended the symposium and delivered opening remarks. The symposium attracted more than 100 offline participants and more than 300 online participants.
The symposium intends to have systematic planning for developing university education programmes that effectively equip students with the skills needed for professions in the 21st century. By learning from global best practices, the symposium assessed the current state of regional university education programmes and identified areas for improvement, with a framework for developing university education programmes in the Arab States launched.
Mr. Lintuo WU, Senior Programme Specialist of UNESCO-ICHEI, delivered a speech. He stated that the digital competency building of teachers is crucial to improving the quality of education programs. Enterprises are the most sensitive to emerging technologies and are direct beneficiaries of talents higher education cultivated. UNESCO-ICHEI attaches great importance to learning from enterprises' experience and technology to keep curriculum development up to date. By the end of the speech, he called for an enhanced exchange of good practices within and between regions and welcomed partner HEIs in the region to join the IIOE network.
