On 24 September 2025, Tashkent University of Information Technologies (TUIT) marked its 70th anniversary with a grand celebration, accompanied by an international conference titled "Development of Engineering Fields and Economic Sectors in the Process of Digital Transformation: Challenges and Solutions". As the host institution of the International Institute of Online Education (IIOE) Uzbekistan National Center, the event brought together ambassadors to Uzbekistan from multiple countries, presidents/rectors of partner universities from around the world, and renowned scholars. As a leading hub for ICT talent development in Central Asia, TUIT's 70th anniversary drew wide attention. This grand occasion not only highlights the university's seven decades of educational achievements,  but also carried far-reaching significance for the advancement of higher education in Uzbekistan and the wider Central Asian sub-region.

During the keynote address, Ms. BI Xiaohan, Deputy Director of UNESCO-ICHEI, extended warm congratulations on behalf of UNESCO-ICHEI. She highlighted the fruitful collaboration between UNESCO-ICHEI and TUIT, underscoring the university's vital role as both a partner institution of UNESCO-ICHEI and the host institution of the IIOE Uzbekistan National Center in advancing digital transformation in higher education in the country and beyond. Ms. BI further introduced two key outcomes of this partnership:

  1. Jointly deployed Smart Classroom as a model of university–industry collaboration. With solid support from UNESCO-ICHEI, and in cooperation with Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) and industry partner GuangZhou DazzleView Intelligent Technology Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as "DazzleView"), TUIT successfully launched an advanced Smart Classroom. Beyond a technical project, this initiative exemplifies the tripartite cooperation model of "government, industry and university", integrating China's technological expertise with local needs. It enhances teaching infrastructure while providing a replicable model of digital education for Uzbekistan and the broader Central Asian sub-region.

  2. Capacity building for local faculty through the IIOE platform. Leveraging the IIOE platform, UNESCO-ICHEI has delivered large-scale, high-quality online training programmes, focusing on strengthening the digital teaching and AI application capacities of faculty members at TUIT and other universities in Uzbekistan. These trainings have significantly improved local educators' ability to integrate digital technologies into teaching and curriculum design, contributing to the sustainable development of higher education in the country.

Through initiatives such as the IIOE platform and the Smart Classroom, UNESCO-ICHEI continues to expand its influence in higher education across Central Asia while advancing global digital education. As a key event of TUIT’s 70th anniversary celebration, the jointly deployed Smart Classroom—by UNESCO-ICHEI, SUSTech, TUIT, and DazzleView—was officially launched, symbolizing a new phase of cooperation.

The anniversary celebration and conference signified a deepening of collaboration between UNESCO-ICHEI and Uzbekistan in higher education digitalization. Looking ahead, the two sides will further strengthen co-construction and sharing of high-quality educational resources, promote AI talent cultivation and future skills development, and contribute to the achievement of SDG 4, "Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all".
